Psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic program for parents in the crisis of divorce or separation
Lifeboat – English edition
Lifeboat is a psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic program for parents in the crisis of divorce or separation. The program is created and organised by SPPPKOT ul. Helclów 23a, Cracow.
The participants
Our program is addressed to parents from international relationships (marriages/couples) whose children attend to school or pre-school in Cracow. The consultations and lectures are in English.
We hope that our program can help parents who are experiencing the breakup of their relationship and have the well-being of their children being raised together in mind. During the series of meetings, participants will get access to a basic up to date psychological knowledge how this critical moment of their lives can affect them and their children, and how to deal with difficulties to reduce possible negative cosequences.

Our program is focused on minimising possible psychological and emotional difficulties that each of the parties involved in a divorce/separation process can experience, both adults and children.
We hope that participation in our program will help parents to understand their own psychological situation, but also will bring them closer to the perspective of their children, and will allow them to focus on children's emotions related to the breakup of the family and facilitate adults to provide children with appropriate emotional support. Moreover, some of the important decisions might become easier to make.
During lectures, therapists underline those aspects of children's psychological functioning, which often escape the attention of even the most loving and caring parents during turbulent divorce/separation negotiations.
Divorce/separation and family breakup are extremely difficult experiences - you cannot go through them without substantial emotional costs. However, it is possible to make decisions and actions that maximise the protection of the youngest members of the family, and also allow the adults to re-arrange parental relationships after separation.
Support in a situation around a divorce/seperation is necessary and valuable. It allows you to cope better with difficulties, discuss alternative ways of coping and create a new plan for the future. The search for such support is an expression of parental care and responsibility.
Participation in the program increases the awareness of partners in the field of different experience of separation, differences in dealing with this crisis. It allows you to better understand your own feelings, subconscious conflicts, can alleviate the split up, define expectations and needs.
Initial consultation (obligatotry): interview with each parent interested in taking part in the program, identification of needs and expectations, presentation of the program, ensuring that the program is made to measure the family current needs
Group lectures for parents: four meetings once a week, each lasting approximately 1,5-2 h.
Individual meetings summarising lectures: meeting with a parent interested in dwelling on their own case aimed at selecting appropriate forms of family assistance.
